Carlingford Park Riding Ponies
thank KB Browbands for the continued support of our show team
January 1, 2009.

Welcome to 2009, we hope New Year celebrations went well for all.

We thought a nice way to see in the new year was to introduce our new kid on the block Scarlett (CP Sweet About Me) now she has filled out. What a delightful little personality she is. Having aquired the quality assets from both her sire (Royalwood Boy Soprano) & her dam (Royalwood Songbird) we couldn't have hoped for a more glamourous filly. We look forward to bringing her out as a yearling towards the end of the year.
Meanwhile, Sabrina's colt foal CP Hall of Fame (x Rosedale Tempting) is being prepared for his show ring debut in the coming months. He is coming along nicely and looking very promising. We have also started working with CP Intuition (Idol) with a view to getting him on his way under saddle before later offering him for sale as a small saddle galloway.
Satine & Sara
Below: Sabrina fresh from a spell
With the festive season now behind us we are full steam ahead into our show preparation for the upcoming show season heading towards Canberra and Sydney Royals.

We recently picked up Satine (CP Socialite) from Sara Robb who has kindly been doing some work with her under saddle during the off season. In her place, after a well earned spell, Sabrina (CP High Society) is now back at Mossman Park preparing for her saddle debut in late January where she will be partnered by Sara's mum, Colleen. Picking up where she left off without a hitch all connections are excited at the prosepct of seeing Sabrina hit the saddle pony ring after a long wait. We extend our sincere appreciation to Sara and Colleen for the wonderful work and dedication they are putting into our girls. We are extremely lucky to have teamed up with the girls of Mossman Park and look forward to a long and successful partnership.

January  26, 2009.

Despite the ridiculous heat experienced in the Hunter Valley on the weekend a number of Carlingford Park ponies headed out to commence their show year.

CP Intrigue (Isaak) made his showring debut under saddle at the HV Twilight Show winning his Newcomer & Open classes before taking out Reserve Champion Pony Hack partnered by owner/rider Kristy Davis of Lochinvar. Congratulations Kristy on such a wonderful result on debut.

CP High society (Sabrina) also making her saddle debut performed splendidly
winning her Novice & Open Pony hack classes at the Hunter regional SHC Show
the following day.
Whilst a few minor mistakes in her champion workout indicated her 'greeness' comments by the judge on the day where most encouraging and we are confident she has a very promising saddle career ahead. Shown in partnership with the Robb family, who did a wonderful job preparing, presenting & partnering her, it was actually her laid back and easy going approach to the day that thrilled all connections the most. We all look forward to the pleasure of campaigning this mare in the coming months.

CP Socialite (Satine) started 2009 with her usual consistancy bringing home a number of qualifications and broadsashes in her multiple breed registrations over the two days.  This wonderful little filly never fails to be up there at every outing.
CP High Society, partnered by Sara Robb
February 20, 2009.

It has been a busy few weeks and we have much to share.

We attended Maitland Show today and there were four Carlingford Park ponies flying the flag at this hectic outing. Firstly, our gorgeous little CP Sweet Embrace at only her thrid show outing took out the RP Youngstock Championship and was later sashed Supreme Champion Riding Pony Exhibit under RP enthusiast Melinda de Roy.
Also winning their led RP classes were CP High Society and CP Socialite.
At only her second show under saddle, and one renown for being a 'hot' show CP High Society handled the day amazingly well winning her first Newcomer RP class and with some nice work later being sashed Reserve Champion RP Newcomer with Collen Robb in the saddle.

From the Riding Pony ring we headed to to the Open Pony hack events where Sabrina won her Intermediate class and backed that up with another Open Pony Hack win.  Colleen and Sara Robb are doing a wonderful job with Sabrina and we thank them dearly for their dedication. It is hard to believe that such an effervescent youngster has evolved into such an easy going laid back young mare, she will no doubt make an expection child's pony in the future.
In other news are new broodmare
Mirinda Touch of Diamonds arrived from
fire ravaged Victoria where thankfully
Leanda stud escaped the dreadful
tragedy bestowed on so many.
Our deepest condolences go out to all
those effected. It certainly makes you
feel proud to be Australian when you
see how the nation has pulled together
to support those in need and no more
so than the horse community, it certainly
is the lucky country.
Carlingford Park Intrigue
Rumour has it little Chrissy Mougios is embarking on her first dressage outing in the coming weeks with CP In Vogue and is busily memorising her test. Vogue is taking good care of Chrissy and it is no wonder Isaak (above), Idol & Isobel are so wonderfully quiet when their mum is such a sweety. Good luck Chrissy, oh and happy birthday, keep us posted on your progress.
I finally got to catch up with Kristy Glover and her gorgeous youngster CP Intrigue (Isaak) who are going from strength to strength. Maitland, being only their third saddle outing, again took out the runner-up sash, from as many outings, in the open pony hack ring - well done guys! I must say Kristy is doing a superb job of turning out this eye catching youngster - he is going to appeal to many!

We  are really thrilled at the wonderful temperaments being displayed by CP Intigue and CP High Society at their early saddle appearances and look forward to them continuing on their winning ways in the future.

Thank you to the McMahon/McCormack families for allowing us the opportunity to purchase this special little KRO mare, we look forward to covering her later this year with CP Hall of Fame.
March 15, 2009.

Since our last update we have ventured to Canberra Royal where our
yearling filly CP Sweet Embrace placed 4th in her yearling class.

However, since then she backed up her Supreme RP win at Maitland Show
with Supreme Riding Pony, Champion Part Welsh and later taking out the
Overall Supreme Champion Led Exhibit of Show at Gresford this weekend
under Riding Pony breeder Lyn Lambeth of Regalbrook RP Stud at Jilliby.

Sienna is proving a real joy to show and the many complimentary comments
received regarding this breedy little daughter of Royalwood Songbird are
very pleasing.
Equally pleasing is the news the talented little CP Intrigue has ventured out twice more since our last update taking out Champion Pony Hack wins on both occassions. He is certainly proving quite a force to reckon with and as an inexperienced newcomer it speaks volumes for his temperament, trainability and the great effort of his jockey Kristy Glover to educate and produce such a successful little superstar.

We hope to see this duo out at the big HOTY events during the year - well done!
Congratulations also to Chrissy Mougios and CP In Vogue on their debut outing together. The dam of CP Intrigue (pic above left) it isn't hard to see where this little fellow's wonderful temperament comes from with Vogue keeping Chrissy safe and hauling in the bows at the same time.
Well done Chrissy & Vogue.

I just couldn't go past this photo of Vogue and Chrissy's 3 yr old neice after a hard day of showing. A true child's pony Vogue has found herself a lovely family to call her own .
Unfortunatley, due to the generosity of Mr Rudd, the CP High Society team were unable to venture out as Sara was required to attend to what turned out to be a very busy day at work...oh well, at least the masses appear to be spending their windfalls and in turn helping our economy recover. We look forward to venturing out with Sabrina again in the near future.
March 19, 2009.

It was rather amiss of me to fail to mention our youngster CP Hall of Fame's show ring
debut at the rescheduled Youngstock Show held recently at Morrisett. Hamish coped
beautifully on debut and brought home the red, white and blue broad sashes in
the Riding Pony, Aust Saddle Pony and Part Welsh rings.  He is now enjoying winter
in the paddock before we prepare him for the show events and breeding season in
Spring. He will be available to a number of select mares this coming season before
being gelded and prepared as a saddle prosepect.

Today we farewelled our lovely CP Theatrical who has headed north to the cooler
region of Armidale where she is now the mount for young Trinity Hooper. We look
forward to hearing how Trinity and Thea are progressing during the coming months
and wish the duo all the best for a successful future together..
March 31, 2009.

The run of success continued for CP Sweet Embrace at Newcastle Show
on the weekend where she was again sashed Supreme Champion Riding
Pony. With four show outings this preparation she has been called forward
for Supreme RP Exhibit at three of them, also picking up a Overall Supreme
Breed Exhibit award along the way.

Not to be out done, half sibling, CP Socialite also enjoyed success at
Newcastle being sashed Champion Arabian Riding Pony Mare, Champion
Part Welsh Mare & Reserve Champion Aust Saddle Pony Mare.

Qualified for the 2010 Royals both fillies now head to Sydney Royal
before enjoying a well earned winter spell.

CP Intrigue also continued his run of open Pony Hack wins at both
Muswellbrook & Newcastle shows last weekend, again being sashed
Champion Pony (Ring 1) at Newcastle.

April 5, 2009.

This weekend saw a trip to Campbelltown Show reap rewards for Sara & Collen with their consistent galloway performer Roseagle Spring Surprise taking out the Champion Galloway award, and new kid on the block Carlingford Park High Society sashed Reserve Champion Pony Hack. Not a bad day's work, well done guys!

Roseagle Spring Surprise now heads into Sydney Royal prior to both ponies making an appearance at Pacific Coast, alongside Carlingford Park Intrigue.

Good luck to all at Sydney Royal, we look forward to catching up with many familiar faces.

April 27, 2009.

On returning from a successful Sydney Royal Show we would like to thank the wonderful team
who helped make our Sydney Royal the success it was. To Joanne Prestwidge, thank you for
your wonderful job of handling our special girl CP Sweet Embrace to take the Reserve Champion
Riding Pony Mare or Filly sash. The ultimate professional, Jo can always be relied on to bring
out the best in those she handles.

It was certainly a thrill to have two daughters of Royalwood Songbird win their classes in the
same year with CP Socialite taking out the 3 yr old filly class.

Thanks to Kayla Booth (KB Browbands) for your continued support and assistance each day at
the show and congratulations to you on your own consistent performances with your two boys
JL Country Charm and Ashbury Park Replica.

Thank you also to Sara & Colleen Robb who are always there for us, my sister Bec Brown
(Hillview Thoroughbreds) and Matt Bourke for keeping a close eye on Sienna whilst we were
out showing CPSocialite (Satine) - your assistance was so greatly appreciated.

Thanks again to everyone who contributed to a great show.

Congratulations also to Gary Alcorn on his success with National Anthem's half sister 'Nottingham Forever Yours' who took out her Novice Saddle Pony class (12.2hh ne 13hh). Already a RP broad sash winner at Sydney Royal and having placed highly at Canberra Royal earlier n the year, Bonnie went on to a well deserved win and no doubt has much more success ahead of her yet.

It was also wonderful to catch up with Marg Withnall and Melissa Lees who now own and show Weston Park Mahogany (sire of Socialite and Intrigue). Mikhaila certainly enjoyed sharing the grand parade with Mel and Smudge (aka 'Smarty'...Marg you need Mel to explain!)(photo left)

Back at home we have now weaned are only foal for the season, CP Sweet About Me (Scarlett) who will make her show ring debut in spring. CP Intuition (Idol) has headed off to the breaker, whereby on his return he will spend sometime with Sara at Mossman Park before returning home.

Socialite is currently enjoying a short freshen up in the paddock before also heading off for some further education at Mossman Park ahead of her 2010 saddle debut. It won’t be long before we bring in our lovely colt Westlake National Anthem, so there is still much to do whilst enjoying a break from the show circuit.

On a bright note for the future at Carlingford Park, albeit a very sad note for Sara and Colleen Rob, the past week saw the retirement of their beloved galloway mare Roseagle Spring Surprise. The disappointment of missing this lovely mare's entire Newcomer year to illness was soon forgotten when she took out the Best Novice Galloway award at Sydney Royal in 2007. Not always the easiests of charges, what the girls have achieved with Dotti during her career is spectacular and a credit to their dedication and astute horsemanship abilities.
We all look forward to the arrival of Dotti at stud and even more so the progeny she may produce in the coming years. She is to be joined in 2009 to Westlake National Anthem for a much anticipated 2010 foal.
We have now included the story of 'Dotti' on her own 'mares' page.
June 6, 2009.

This weekend we picked up our young galloway CP Intuition (Idol) from the breaker and he is now with Sara Robb furthering his education. We couldn't be more thrilled with the way he has taken to his new career, that of saddle horse. A rising 3 year old idol is proving to be an extraordinarily quiet and sensible youngster. A very nice horse across the ground he is a super comfortable ride and will undoubedtly make a very competitive child's small galloway and rider class mount.

In late May Sara, Kristy and myself ventured to Wee Waa to adjudicate at their '09 show.  We had a terrific time together, enjoyed our appointment and were treated wonderfully by the warm local country folk. Surprisingly we even found time for a spot of shopping in two of the most gorgeous country stores.
As winter closes in and the days become increasingly shorter we are busily preparing a small team for Brisbane Royal which will be upon us before we know it. We also have Scarlett in being prepared for an early spring debut and are very pleased with her progress. She is a very easy going personality who is enjoying all the attention she is currently receiving.  We are really looking forward to getting her out and about in the coming months.

July 8, 2009.

In late June I ventured to the NSW Foal Show with our beautiful filly CP Sweet About Me.
Always a big day out for the babies Scarlett handled her first outing quite well after enduring quite a long trip the day before. Even with a slight aversion to her forelock plait and award ribbons overall she was undaunted by her surroundings and was awarded the following:

* 3rd Riding Pony Filly
* 2nd / Reserve Champion Arabian Riding Pony
* 2nd Aust Saddle Pony Filly

We look forward to her maturing into a very competitive youngster in the coming years.

Thanks to Joanne and Ian Prestwidge for their wonderful hospitality and to Joanne for her much appreciated assistance at the show.

In early August 3 yr old galloway gelding CP Intuition (Idol) headed off to the big smoke where he is now lovingly owned by young Morgan Gray and her family. Ever the gentleman Idol could always be relied on to babysit the youngsters or be a companion to the mares and his absence is already being missed. Nontheless our loss is Morgan's gain and we wish them both all the best for showring success during the ensuing years. We look forward to catching up with them both on a regular basis on the show circuit.
As one of only two mares due to foal this season our Footlight mare, Meadowbrook Mosaic, is due to foal to Rothwell Toytown in the coming weeks. Molly is owned by our daughter Mikhaila who is currently enduring trail HSC exams however she is sparing a few moments to ponder suitable names for her beloved Molly's baby. With all indications being the new additional will arrive sooner rather than later it will no doubt be a tense time for Mikhaila as she waits patiently.

Striving For Excellence
Firstly our trip to the Ekka where Neon attended his first Royal show with pleasing results. In the Aust Saddle Pony Stallion or Colt under 13hh event Neon was capably handled by Richard Sharman where he was awarded 2nd behind 4yr old Footlight stallion Springtime Park Opening Night. The following day, and with Richard already committed, Neon and I headed into the Riding Pony 2 yr old Colt class where he was again decorated in red. Always the character, I couldn't have been happier with how Neon coped with his first major show and whilst he did lose a little condition on the long eventful trip up he wasn't fazed by anything. I look forward to getting him out again in the coming weeks before he commences stud duties for the 2009 season.
August 20, 2009.

During the past month we have headed north with National Anthem, farewelled our young galloway CP Intuition and we are now patiently waiting to welcome our first baby for 2009.
November 1st, 2009.

Gosh, it's almost been 3 months since our last update ... how time flys!

During this time we have been busy campaigning our boy Westlake National Anthem before the onslaught of the stud season. Apart from his strong showing at Brisbane Royal on his pathway to qualifying for the 2010 Royals Neon has been awarded a multitude of broadsashes including Champion Riding Pony Colt, Champion P/Welsh Colt and Best Partwelsh Youngstock exhibit as well as Best Aust Saddle Pony Junior and later Supreme Champion ASP Exhibit at the APSB Annual All Breeds Show, Luddenham, under three different judges.

Neon has now taken a well earned break from the show ring to concentrate on his first season at stud where we have welcomed his first positive results.
Having been well received in his first season Neon has a strong book of quality Royal & HOTY performed mares to cover so we are keen for the 2010 foaling season to see what he can produced.

The second half of the year heralded the showring debut of the delightful CP Indulgence who is leased and superbly prepared by Kayla Booth of KB Browbands. Isobel has easily gained her quallies in RP, ASP & Part Welsh more often than not trotting away with the broadribbon. The highlight was undoubtedly when she was sashed Champion Riding Pony at Quirindi Show and later called forward for the Supreme Champion All Breeds accolade for a suitably pleased Kayla. Proving to be incredibly quiet, taking everything in her stride we look forward to Issie's Royal show debut at Sydney in April and are equally looking forward to her future saddle career in the coming years. Congratulations to Kayla for the job she has done producing Isobel.

Both Carlingford Park High Society and CP Intrigue are (at this stage) also heading to Sydney and Canberra in 2010. Both ponies performed credibly at the recent SHC HOTY with Sabrina placing in her preliminary class for the Robb Family, ridden by regular jockey Colleen.

Intrigue (Isaak), owned and ridden by Kristy Glover, was Top 10 Newcomer before winning his preliminary class and being sashed runner-up Preliminary POTY. Returning the next day Isaak finished the weekend with a Top 10 (marked 6th) in the Open Large pony the following day. A great result for such a young pony who didn't put a foot out of place over the two days of compeition, gaining a huge number of positive comments along the way from those in attendance.

Well done to Kristy, Sara and Colleen on the great job your doing with Carlingford Park ponies - thank you!

In early September we welcomed our first, & currently our only, foal for 2009 when Meadowbrook Mosaic (Molly) presented us with a bay filly by Rothwell Toytown. Miley, as she was christened by our daughter Mikhaila, is a very quiet easy going youngster who relishes the time spent with her human family. With her mother being a  very chromy chestnut mare, the only white to decorate our fat little Miley are two small hind socks but she has been blessed with her mother's ample derriere and her father's incredible trot.

So as our long overdue update draws to a close we are again left waiting...this time for the new addition from our thoroughbred mare Sophie who with a week to go is infoal to Royalwood Boy Soprano. After Curly's huge success as a sire at the NSW HOTY we can't wait to meet what we so desperately hope is the mare's first filly for us.
Continuing on a breeding note, the support our youngster CP Hall of Fame has received from mare owners is exciting. With only the one show appearance to date, albeit a very successful outing, Hamish has already covered a royal show broad sash winner, the dam of a Crane trophy winner as well as our own Mirinda Touch of Diamonds who has produced an in hand royal show winner. As 2 yr olds, and as such unknown entities, it is always a relief to see the boys have both returned positive results with their early mares.
Fingers crossed for continued success throughout the remainder of the season.

Thank you to all the mare owners for your support!

November 22nd, 2009.

It's another girl for 2009!
Our much adored thoroughbred mare finally gave us a filly! On her due date Sophie presented us with an extremely leggy and upstanding chestnut filly which we have christened Duet. She has a small white stripe on her face, a  front sock and a small sock on the diagonal hind. By Royalwood Boy Soprano, who has been kind to us in the way of producing girls, we couldn't be happier with our classy new addition.

After a normal birth and a very strong foal it wasn't all smooth sailing with Duet refusing to latch on and suckle. Due in Wollongong, some 300 kms away, that afternoon to attend a wedding Duet gave us some early stress before finally starting to suckle some 6 hrs later. After constant care from Steve, and with Mikhaila left behind on monitoring duties, all ended well and although travelling south seperately and hours apart we eventually made it to the reception and enjoyed a wonderful evening with close friends and family.

Duet hasn't looked back since and is thriving under the ever vigilant eye of her dedicated mother. We are hoping to join Sophie to W.National Anthem in the coming weeks, fingers crossed!

We'd like to say a huge thank you to Kayla Guner of Langenhoe Park for her kind generosity in allowing her lovely galloway mare Willowcroft Star Attraction (Bella) to join us at Carlingford Park on lease.  Arriving only a week ago Bella has settled in very well and has already been covered by W.National Anthem
.
Some of her achievements include Champion NSW Riding Pony Newcomer Sweepstakes winner & Top 5 Small Galloway at SHC Horse & Rider Spectacular in 2008 along with a multitude of in-hand and saddle broad sashes in a limited career which was somewhat hampered by the outbreak of EI.

Visit Bella's mares page for more detailed information on this delightful small galloway mare.

Construction of our new barn is well underway and it is hoped we may have the horses in it in time for Sydney Royal. As draftsman, project manager and sole builder Steve's goal is to have all concrete walls in place before Christmas which should see him able to move forward during his annual leave in January.

A seven stable complex complete with feed, tack rooms and internal wash bay it will certainly make preparing the ponies a lot easier in the years to come. From drawing up the plans to total construction he is doing a super job and I can't thank him enough for his Goliath effort in ensuring we have a great facility in which to prepare our team.

As the weeks progress we are pleased to be recording more positive results with our young colts and continue to look forward to the 2010 foaling season with interest.
Whilst somewhat daunting how fast time marches on it is sadly inevidable that our children grow up far to quickly. Our eldest, daughter Mikhaila, attended her Year 12 Formal last week and we couldn't have been prouder of her. Partnered by Elliott Smith they cut a dashing couple dressed to impress!ng. Thanks to our equine friend Elle Scruton (nee Mangan) for her generous contribution ensuring Mikhaila was looking her elegant best on the night.
Thanks Elle.
